Every year in early May something special happens in Memphis Tennessee. The Blues family gathers for the Blues Music Awards put on by the good folks of the Blues Foundation to honor and recognize the best of the best. This year it happened on May 7 at the Cook Convention Center. To quote the Foundation’s web site: “The event brings together Blues performers industry representatives and fans from all over the world to celebrate the best in Blues recordings and performances from the previous year. Each year the Foundation presents The Blues Music Awards to the artists selected by its members. They are universally recognized as the highest honor given to Blues artists.

The 11th festival runs from July 24-26 and will be co-headlined by three legendary artists. John Mayall known as the godfather of British blues; Taj Mahal said to be one of the most prominent figures in blues this decade and Jethro Tull an innovative and successful British rock band. ther main stage artists include The Blues Band featuring Paul Jones one of Britain?s finest practitioners of blues music. Blues and soul singer Ruby Turner returns to Maryport after her successful appearance with Jools Holland in 2008. Ryan Shaw a singer song writer from Georgia USA nominated in 2008 for Best Traditional Rhythm and Blues Vocal Performance will also be on stage. thers include highly acclaimed Rab McCulloch from Northern Ireland a blues guitarist making a rare mainland appearance and Alan Nimmo with a new project King King. Making a return from Indianapolis USA will be the WT Feaster band.

Andy Roberts has a wealth of experience on the UK and international stage. He is a soulful blues vocalist having sung for many years with Blues Patrol and worked with many notable musicians including tis Grand and Bobby Tench. Storm Warning presents a unique mixture of original blues music and covers resulting in powerful dynamic and contemporary blues. To date the band has produced two albums which have both received superb critical acclaim. Career highlights include recording a session for the Paul Jones programme on Radio 2 a track on the front cover CD of Classic Rock magazine and the Digital Blues Award for Best Album of 2008. Sorry that John Mayer one of the pre-eminent blues guitarists of recent vintage isn't good enough for you.
