It wasn’t the super-tight motorcycle jacket or the designer shades or the fact that his jeans were hanging closer to his knees than his waist. It wasn’t all the pop-locking he did to match his show’s futuristic soundscape or the stretches where it sounded like he was rapping more than he was singing. It was that The-Dream decided to play the House of Blues across the street from Fenway Park wearing a Yankees cap. Born in North Carolina and raised in Atlanta Terius Youngdell Nash who performs as The-Dream probably didn’t know any better. He was nearly oblivious when a pocket of people in the back of the fairly packed hall waited for the breakdown to his song “My Love” to shower him with anti-Yankees chants. He tuned out the hecklers and went into his biggest hit “I Love Your Girl” sort of a snap-rap love song about taking a girl from a guy and then taunting the guy because the girl doesn’t want him anymore. You could argue that The-Dream who penned big radio hits “Umbrella” and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” is at the center of the R&B universe.

Washington Ave 9 PM. It should be a wild night of classic country blues and rockabilly. Pupy Costello and his band make real foot-stompin’ country music the kind that’s fit for both a honky-tonk barn dance and a bar full of rascals. It channels not only the sounds of classic country and blues — Hank Williams Johnny Paycheck and the Memphis Jug Band to name a few – but their spirits. The Cash Box Kings are a group of young blues players from around the Midwest who are dedicated to carrying on the spirit of the 1940’s and 50’s post-war Chicago blues sound as well as the delta blues music of the 20’s and 30’s. The band pays homage to a lot of Chess and Sun Records luminaries like Little Walter Muddy Waters and Jimmy Rogers along with lesser-known musicians like Dr.
