Last year Music Maker acts performed in 22 states across America and in 14 countries. “He’s helped me a whole lot” says Music Maker regular Captain Luke (Luther Mayer) a blues singer from Winston-Salem. “I can’t get around too good anymore and he’s kept me in cars food anything I need. I get plenty of work through him too all over and across the water — France Switzerland Germany Argentina all those places. I’ve been halfway around the world with him. Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival draws dozens of performers aids …
Baltimore Sun
“It’s just a gorgeous setting – right on the bay with a view of the Bay Bridge” he said. Hooker a blues fanatic who worked in computer sales had never put on a festival – or concert of any kind – before. But his love of blues music and sheer determination led him to organize the first. It was an explosive hit bringing more than 13000 people to the park over the course of two days even though it rained. Since then it has become one of the biggest music festivals in the Mid-Atlantic region.

We had remarked on how distinctive Freese’s drumming is and remarkable for its high-tuned snare and in concert Pedicone really captured that style and took it to another level. The rest of Rossdale’s road band is everyone from the studio group and since he never introduced anyone we would never have known if Pedicone hadn’t emailed. The excellent CD took Album of the Year and Contemporary Blues Album of the Year while Guy was named Blues Artist of the Year. meanwhile sensitive songwriter Matt Nathanson the Lexington native we stumbled upon when he was surrounded by college girls at a Providence show just had his single “Come n Get Higher” certified platinum after more than a million sales by downloads alone.
Jimmy Herring Doesn’t Sing The Blues
The Chattanoogan
Bassist teil Burbridge has spends a lot of his time with the Allman Brothers and his discography goes back to ‘89. Herring told me that the band has only practiced together three times and their ability to pull off a vibrant set under those conditions speaks to their skill as musicians. Their music is hard to generalize. Its part jam part jazz part funk part blues. It was all instrumental save for some vocals by teil and Kinsey which were more Moog than voice but in a good way. Although Herring is unarguably a fantastic guitar player every member of this band of veterans showed why they were chosen to play in this group. The music was full without being overdone loud but not too loud and fluid but not busy.

Musicians perform jam tribute to Stephen Bruton
Fort Worth Star Telegram
“Stephen would’ve really enjoyed this. “With Stephen Bruton’s funeral having taken place on Saturday the players mostly let the music do the talking with a range of blues songs from artists such as Buddy Guy Jerry Reed Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bruton himself. A couple of the musicians shared anecdotes about their encounters with Bruton when they were younger. Fort Worth’s John Nitzinger who put on one of the day’s most scorching sets talked about how he used to follow Bruton around and try to get him to listen to a song he wrote when he was 14. And Mike ‘Neil a Wichita Falls-based guitarist who had performed with Bruton told of how T Bone Burnett had introduced a 19-year-old ‘Neil to multi-instrumentalist Bruton. “I was a rock ‘n’ roll guy” ‘Neil said.
