He told Sivils and his bandmates that before being drafted and sent to Korea he was the drummer for Howlin’ Wolf. “All the guys I was playing with were laughing about it until one day we were going through an oldies bin and pulled up the West Memphis recording sessions of Howlin’ Wolf and he was on the album credits” Sivils said. “He was very influential in showing me what a real pocket was and how essential it is in blues music. “He also cites local influences like Delta blues duo Po’ Henry and Tookie or guitarist Toby Traylor. Traylor and Tookie Collom often perform with Sivils and he said he’s learned a great deal from both of them and enjoyed playing with them. That in the end is what music is for Sivils. He’s not looking for fame and fortune.

For his 1974 senior recital he played Mendelsson’s “Venetian Boat Song in G Minor” Brahms’ “Lullaby in A Flat” and Bach’s “Prelude in C. ” He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree. Running a record labelIn the 1970s ’80s and ’90s Mr. Jarrett’s presence was largely behind-the-scenes as he ran a record label that released gospel blues and R&B music. But the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s 2004-05 exhibit and the Grammy-winning Night Train compilation (which featured six songs that Jarrett wrote and produced) put him back in the spotlight. In 2005 the Country Music Foundation Press released You Can Make It If You Try which was co-written with Ruth White and friends and admirers gathered for a tribute show for Mr. Jarrett at the Hall of Fame.
