Cadillac Records – Not As Good As Other Music Biopics

The label started selling albums at the back of Chess’Cadillac and launched the careers of legendary musicalpersonalities such as blues singers and harmonica and guitarplayers Little Walter and Howlin’ Wolf blues musician MuddyWaters soul legend Etta James and guitarist singer-songwritersChuck Berry and Bo Diddley. Often when the artist had a hit single or album The rewardwas a brand new Cadillac. When this “rhythm & blues” music”crossed over” to white audiances and performers legendary D. Alan Freed coined the music’s new name: “Rock and Roll”. The picture is not as good as the music biopics that haveproceeded it (“Ray” “Walk The Line) for example butBeyoncé Knowles is excellent as the legendary Diva EttaJames belting out “At Last” like she owned it. Rapper Mos Def isnot bad as Rock Legend Chuck Berry but his role was limited and Iwould like to have seen allot more of Mr Berry who some consider”The Grandfahter of Rock”.

Theirrepertory ranged from ’70s garage-soul to gospel-steeped blues songsfrom the early-20th century — stuff with a paucity of recordedmaterial if any. On a good day the Honeydrops couldmake $100 apiece in two to three hours.
