For my guitar part I used my 1985 Fender Squire Strat. For me the Strat is the sound of electric blues–I get that Eric Clapton vibe going and could play for hours. There is just nothing like sitting back in my chair with a piece of blues music playing while ripping off a solo. We’ll cover some more topics in future posts on this project.

These musicians were rockin’ long before Elvis was although nobody referred to their genre back then as rock. A good body of their musical work was recordings of songs that referenced baseball and its stars. In the late 1940s blues artists and big bands used music to pay homage to the social changes baseball wrought. A number of artists released songs about Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby. Jazz legend Count Basie recorded “Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball” in ’49:Did you see Jackie Robinson hit that ball?Did he hit it? Yeah and that ain’t all. Yes yes Jackie’s real gone.
