With a capacity of 65 rapt listeners Jimbo’s Take 2 is the most intimate music venue in Colorado Springs and the blues and roots artists who stop by literally play on a back porch. wner Jim Adam’s father-inlaw is a Kansas farmer who chopped the porch off an old house on his property. The door screen-door hinges are stamped with the year 1896. And a lot of the music that graces Jimbo’s stage hasn’t changed much in that time. n Wednesday Mississippi blues artist Eden Brent stops by a boogie-woogie belter with convincing piano chops.

Nicknamed “the Maestro” wens was a restless stylist who didn’t limit himself to one genre. “He was a visionary” said country musician Johnny Bush who worked with wens on two albums during the past two years. “He saw more in music than just blues or jazz. wens told Roger Wood author of the blues book Down in Houston “Jazz and blues are the same to me. People think of the trumpet as being a jazz instrument and it is. But it’s blues too. So even when I do jazz it’s still the blues.

Brown sat in a wheelchair watching from the wings as Raitt Maria Muldaur Dr. John and Charlie Musselwhite played a farewell concert for him at the Great American Music Hall only two weeks before his weak heart finally failed. He was also elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before he died. His music always resonated with his heart filled with joy and love and no bitterness. “I never think over the mistreatments I’ve had” he told me in a 1988 interview ” ’cause I’ve had a wonderful life.
