Debbie Davies likes all shades of blues
Providence Journal – Jan 3, 2008
“You write blues tunes that are also radio-accessible. “But then that didn’t happen so I just continued doing what I was doing and I became less focused on that. I know I’m not one of the originators of this music and I didn’t grow up on blues — I discovered the blues. So I have a lot of musical influences that are gonna come out in whatever I do. So I’m never going to pretend I’m an original blues artist. ”But the blues is a feeling as many have said before and it ultimately doesn’t matter whether you’re white black old young male or female. “It’s a particular feeling inside of you that you have for life and blues is the way you express it.

Carolyn Mark writes hurtin’ songs to cure the blues
Georgia Straight – Jan 3, 2008
gif’> printCarolyn Mark writes hurtin’ songs to cure the bluesIf there were an annual prize for best CD cover design Carolyn Mark’s Nothing Is Free would definitely be in the running. f all the packages that have passed this way in 2007 few have been so attractively eerie or so perfectly emblematic of the music they illustrate. Kelly Haigh’s cover painting depicts Mark as a big-eyed Margaret Keane kewpie doll clutching a guitar and wearing a lovely aquamarine gown. But the sun is setting black fumes are pouring from three ominous smokestacks and a slavering weasel is looking at the singer as if it were Elvis and she a bacon sandwich. A similar dichotomy exists in the music on the former Vinaigrettes singer’s fifth CD as a solo artist.
