This year it takes place Friday and Saturday Feb. 15-16 at the historic Lafayette Hotel on the hio River in Marietta. The New York Times raved “In his long career Taj Mahal has worked with bands that play reggae New rleans rhythm-and-blues and other African diaspora styles but he has never moved far from the blues. (He) has lived with the tradition for so long he has stopped worrying about staying close to his sources. "Researchers hope to have the study completed by March. Meanwhile another research project – a joint study with the Auckland University of Technology – will examine smokers' signature "rasps" and whether they improve after quitting. While that husky gravelly sound is beloved by aficionados of blues music many smokers hate the way smoking deepens and thickens their voices. "If researchers can detect a change in voice quality they may also be able to use this technology to monitor the outcome of stop-smoking studies making it easier to test new ways to help smokers quit.

While growing up in Chelan Stuart wrote songs and learned to play guitar singing along to records by the Platters the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly. After graduating from high school she moved to Seattle and picked up a gig at the Pamir House a popular University District club playing folk songs on a baritone ukulele. Stuart moved to California in the mid-’60s and before long was performing with Joan Baez Doc Watson and Mississippi John Hurt who became a close pal. In 1965 after touring the East Coast she met Frank Zappa and played with his blues band for a few months… It’s my hometown and I get a lot of support here. But now it’s time to do the national thing again. n recording “Freedom”:”I was trying to record the kind of music that Alice & the Formerlys play at a concert. We play many different genres of music. We play a little rock a little country and a little blues.
