Big names for Kiwi Bluesfest

Promoter Manolo Echave said up to 12000 music fans were expected to attend Bluesfest NZ to be held for the first time on March 22 2008 at Dakota Fields Moewai Rd off SH25 near Whitianga. It is connected to the highly rated Australian annual East Coast International Blues and Roots Music Festival (also known as Byron Bay Bluesfest) the West Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Western Australia Point Nepean A Music Experience (Victoria) and Southern Roots (Tasmania). Louisiana-born blues veteran and Rock'n'Roll Hall of Famer Buddy Guy 71 is the headline act booked for Bluesfest NZ which will also feature Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall Californian guitarist Keb Mo and most surprisingly Ian Brown the former singer for iconic 1980s British rock band The Stone Roses. Chicago-based Wilco led by Jeff Tweedy is the other international act announced so far.

“Mohegan executives hosted a delegation of Atlantic County officials in July the newspaper reported. that is to include a 38-story 1000-room hotel with a spa a House of Blues music hall and more slot machines stores and restaurants. Last year it opened slot machines at Pocono Downs in Pennsylvania and is working on projects in several other states. A state-appointed trustee in New Jersey is seeking a buyer for the Tropicana in Atlantic City from among more than a half-dozen suitors. Tropicana also plans to sell its casinos in Evansville Ind. and Vicksburg Miss.

Ever since he first clambered onto a piano stool aged eight and discovered his natural note-perfect talents Jools Holland’s passion has always been playing music – despite a successful career as a broadcaster. Music Week looks at his early days in Squeeze through to his solo career and the 100 live shows a year of his band the Rhythm & Blues rchestra Despite being a household name after spending the best part of 25 years presenting music television shows Jools Holland’s real passion has since he was old enough to climb onto a piano stool always lain with the art of making music. Aged eight Holland listened to his uncle play St Louis Blues in his grandparents’ front room and having been urged to give it a try he found that he could play it note perfectly from the off. It would prove to be one of the most formative moment of his young life. “It felt like all the elements of the universe had come together for the first time making order out of chaos” he recalls in his recently published autobiography Barefaced Lies & Boogie Woogie Boasts. Holland’s grandmother had been given a piano as a wedding present in the 1930s and the family would regularly gather for singsongs along to boogie-woogie and gospel records by the likes of Sister Rosetta Tharp music that would strongly influence Holland’s young ears.
