But notjust one EP. Simpson is so multitalented that Maybe By Midnight —Knockin’ at the Back Door Volume 1 is the first of seven EPsthat will eventually make up a boxed set with DVDs that span jazzpop “guitar mafia” and laid-back blues to be released by MescalitoRecords. “Knockin’ at the back door music” is an old term for the blueswhich was so looked down upon by society that it was not to be letinto the house. Simpson’s offering features five originals and a cover of theSteve Earle song Sometimes She Forgets. Simpson has sungback-up vocals on plenty of local country albums but has only cometo really appreciate the country genre in the past few years afterhanging out in Texas border towns such as El Paso and Laredo. f course it doesn’t hurt to have quality players such as AndyBaylor Alex Burns Jaimi Faulkner and Shannon Bourne NichaudFitzgibbon and Kylie Auldist on your doorstep. Simpson & theProdigal Sons launch their tribute to alt country tonight at theFamous Spiegeltent at 7pm.
