By RBERT KINSLER Special to the Register Comments | Recommend When Dennis Roger Reed performs at the Living Tradition on ct. 20 it will mark the longtime San Clemente resident’s sixth appearance at the monthly folk music showcase since its inception in 1999. It will also mark another chance to catch a remarkable artist who blends a variety of Americana genres including folk country-western bluegrass and blues. Reed’s wide-ranging background has played an important role in establishing his reputation on the national folk scene. In addition to his excellent solo releases for Plastic Meltdown Records (1999′s “King of Dreams” and 2004′s “Cowboy Blues) he spent five years in the early 1990s playing bass with the Andy Rau Band a progressive bluegrass troupe that recorded two albums for Turquoise Records. Rau will be joining Reed throughout at his Anaheim set to play banjo and mandolin. “He can put banjo in a rock song and make it like it belongs there” Reed said of Rau’s dazzling skills on a stringed instrument most associated with bluegrass music.
