Her decision to return to music also resulted in “Mom’s Song” among many others. Wymer’s music can be heard on radio stations in the United States and Europe. “Everyone loves the blues in Europe especially women blues singers” Wymer said adding that the music industry in the United States is not all that accepting of blues and especially not of women in blues. Bringing more women into the blues genre is one of her goals. Wymer and her band were nominated for Top Blues Band at the 2006 Asbury Music Awards and were selected to play at the 2007 Mammapalooza Festival in New York City. She has performed in locations includ ing Barrington Coffee House Barring-ton N.

John has served as a mentor to the Double Barrel blues band a quartet of musicians ages 14 to20 and has just begun participating in Blues in the Schools run by the Columbus BluesAlliance. “My main objective” he said “is to make kids aware of the importance of the blues and itsrelevance pretty much to every form of pop music being performed today.

Tom Weatherby organizer of the Mahoning River Blues Festival said he expects anywhere from 3000 to 5000 people at this year’s event at the B& Boxcar Lounge in Youngstown. The first festival was on a Saturday evening included five bands and attracted about 150 people. The second was on a Sunday had 12 bands and drew 800 to 900 people. This year he said he’s filling the weekend festival with 30 bands and two stages… ?If you win the International competition and you don’t make it it’s your own fault? Weatherby said. ?They set you up with all the tools to do it. ?According to the Blues Foundation Web site winners of the International Blues Challenge receive cash and prizes such as professional consultations and assistance gigs at some of the country’s best festivals as well as a slot on the 2008 Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise. The winner at the Mahoning Valley Blues Festival will receive $500 and gets to open for a show in November at the Chevy Centre downtown. Admission is $7 each day but is free with an active military identification card. ?I’m a big supporter of the troops? Weatherby said. ?I do everything I can do for the troops to show them how much I appreciate them.
