The original idea came when he recorded his brilliant version of Dylan’s ‘A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall’ in 1973 but it took nearly 30 years to come to fruition. In between Ferry of course has been busy: as well as being the front man of the wildly innovative modern art-rock band Roxy Music he’s also spent the last 30-plus years establishing himself as a great songwriter (‘Love Is The Drug’ ‘More Than This’ ‘Slave To Love’ etc) and distinctively modern singer. After a spectacular comeback in 1995 with the release of Naked and True Crawford’s immeasurable talent has continued winning critical acclaim as a regular on the distinguished European jazz festival circuit. In September on her latest tour with Joe Sample it is finally Australia’s turn to see just why with songs such as Rainy Night In Georgia Knockin’ n Heaven’s Door Same ld Story (Same ld Song) Don’t Get Caught In Love’s Triangle and Give Me The Night her career has flourished. Joe Sample began playing piano at age five and since then the Houston Texas native has explored a wealth of musical genres including gospel soul bebop blues Latin and classical music. With trombonist Wayne Henderson tenor saxophonist Wilton Felder and drummer Stix Hooper Joe Sample launched The Jazz Crusaders in the late 1950′s – becoming the Crusaders in the funk-filled 1970s.
