comLockport Union-Sun & JournalLCKPRT —Lockport’s second Unity Music Festival lifted spirits a little higher Saturday with gospel jazz blues rock rap and rhythm and blues music throughout the day at utwater Park. Buffalo’s All-Star Band including guitarist Kenny Hawkins entertained in the late afternoon. The festival which began at 11 a. and continued through dusk featured Rey Scott and Company Lockport’s Jackie Davis and the New Brown Fellowship Christian Center.

My nephew is beaming and his bride Elise is gorgeous and both of them are so funny and their friends are adorable — spinning together clapping and sweating and loving each other. Soon enough my parents turn down the volume on their hearing aids which they say helps. They go on about not understanding the loud music of today which by now is already yesterday. Claire says: “We like this music! We like it!” the same way we once talked about The Monkees. With that she gets up to dance. She goes right in there with the youngsters while I stay back with my parents thinking about how I now am a person who thanks to Claire uses words such as “youngsters. ” The band is fantastic jumping through eras as if nothing ever happened as if 30 years of music were just one sound — gitchy gitchy ya ya da da a fabulous night for a moon dance baby I need your lovin’ — all of which is right is true is exactly as I understand it.
