" Later recordings such as "Dusk" (2000) "A Beautiful Day" (2002) and "Time Lines" (2006) brought fresh acclaim and Down Beat magazine named "Time Lines" album of the year. More than most jazz composers Mr. Hill combined elements from many musical sources freely mixing gospel blues and classical music to create a sound uniquely his own. His works stretched the boundaries of rhythm and harmony and blended careful composition with free improvisation. Jazz critic John Murph described Mr. Hill’s music as "captivating but not exactly catchy" last year in Down Beat.

Traditional blues is not usually thought of as activist music. Yet Blues Foundation Hall of Famer Doug MacLeod a journeyman songwriter and guitarist has explored politics of late with both serious and humorous songs. “To tell you the truth if I feel it needs to be said I say it” said MacLeod from his Los Angeles-area home. His song 'Dubb's Talkin' Politician Blues” is a humorous dissertation about the nature of politics in general. “Even in Slovenia people come talk to me about that song ” MacLeod said “And I have had people come up to me here very right wing who are mad about it.
