Blue Cheer was the name of a potent brand of LSD while also relating to the musical legacy that spawned the band. “It was named after acid and named after the fact that we liked the blues. com reader Bev Pelletier was kind enough to send us some photos she snapped at last night’s Matt Minglewood concert which took place at the Sault Theatre Workshop Studio. A 30 year veteran of the Canadian country and blues music scene Minglewood holds three gold records two Juno nominations two ECMA awards for Blues Recording of the Year (2004 and 2006) and has been honoured with the Queens Jubilee Award for his contribution to Canadian music. Next on the roster for the Sault Theatre Workshop is a production of Neil Simon’s brilliant and critically acclaimed romantic comedy Barefoot in the Park. As a child Aguilera 26 saw her mother Shelly Kearns fall victim to verbal and physical abuse by her father Fausto Aguilera. The couple split when Augilera was 6 and she was raised by her mother and grandmother. It was Aguilera’s grandmother Delcie Fidler who introduced her to the music of Billie Holiday Ella Fitzgerald Etta James and other jazz and blues singers. Aguilera easily connected to the emotional rawness of the music. “I do talk about it being feel-good music” Aguilera says. “Yes there are songs that totally fit that to a tee but then of course there’s a lot of sadness in old music and in blues. It originates from pain and I mean I think that’s really beautiful.
